Wow! It’s safe to say the team here at Sentinel Homes is fizzing with excitement after this year’s Registered Master Builders House of the Year Awards – we’ve taken home our most impressive ever haul!
Our North West team took home two golds, a silver and a bronze and… wait for it… a regional category win and gold reserve finalist in the upcoming National Event in November. Our Waikato team also took home three silver gongs. It was a very big night for both teams!
On the back of those results, our award-winning streak remains strong – despite the competition getting tougher each year.
Since 2011, we’ve consistently been amongst the winners at these awards – winning gold an impressive seven out of eight years! We’ve also been recognised as the overall regional winner in a category not once, but four times. That’s seen us receive the much-coveted Gold Reserve Finalist and Regional Category Winner in 2011, 2013, 2017 and now 2019!
That’s huge – and here’s why. From amongst a really large group of houses built within a certain price range, our Sentinel Homes are rated the very best for excellence in workmanship, creativity and innovation. We get that a lot from our customers, but it’s really nice to hear it from a panel of industry experts, too.
And the icing on the cake? One of the golds was awarded to our MillWater charity home, a house we built solely to donate profits to Parenting Place. As a company, we’re building these houses all over the country, selling them and donating the profit to support the incredible work of this non-for-profit organisation. These are quality homes built to the highest standard and intended to be spaces where families can grow. We’re so chuffed that the judges saw that too!
Here’s the down-low on each of our winning homes.
18 Sir Lincoln Drive, Huapai
Pull up outside this eye-catching black and white home, and you’ll see why it won gold and was the overall regional category winner. This is all about executive style without blowing the budget, featuring weatherboard and brick claddings. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a study mean there’s room for everything. The sundrenched open-plan living/dining area rolls straight outside through generous bi-fold doors. Outside, automated awnings let the family fully enjoy the outdoors – sensors cause the awnings to move in and out, for sun or shade when it’s needed.
70 Ormonde Drive, MillWater
This property in Milwater was the charity home, designed for a family’s changing needs – a perfect alignment with Parenting Place’s aims! The light-filled open-plan layout flows into an entertainer’s kitchen overlooking expansive views. A second living area gives lots of space, while upstairs, the master bedroom is a private haven, with walk-in robe and fully tiled ensuite.
1 Hinau Road, Waimauku
This sun-drenched home was all about views and sunshine, with wings spreading out northwest. This was a tricky site, but the clever design made full use of the space. With a modest footprint of under 180sqm, this four-bedroom and three-bathroom home still feels spacious and airy, with oodles of natural light and supreme liveability. In the living wing, two sets of stacker slider doors connect you with the great outdoors on a generous patio. Sleek black and white outside complements the warmth of laminate and expansive windows.
111 St Kilda Road, Cambridge
With a striking Hinuera stone exterior, the interior of this stylish 256sqm home is simple perfection: four bedrooms and two bathrooms, open-plan living with a media room offering a cosy retreat. An entertainer’s kitchen with scullery serves up the ultimate in functionality, while a louvre-covered outdoor space brilliantly extends the living area – and lets the family make full use of the swimming pool! The home is also equipped with grid-connected solar panels, grey-water tanks and upgraded insulation.
43 St Kilda Road, Cambridge
This is a show home for the Waikato team. Cedar, white brick and a grand forecourt create a striking first impression. The joy continues in the spacious open-plan living, with beautiful light and exceptional flow to the outdoors, thanks to the louvre-roofed alfresco area. A fireplace plus a black and warm-wood kitchen add drama and ambience. The master suite is an oasis, with walk-around wardrobe and tiled ensuite with freestanding bath. Four more bedrooms, one with ensuite, plus a main bathroom and dual garages complete this class act.
192c Ongare Point Road, Katikati
The black-painted brick and cedar of this home complements its hillside environment. Inside, large windows and glazed doors let in the light, and a tranquil view of Matakana Island through bifold doors. Chic polished concrete floors soak up and deliver the warmth of the sun to the airy spaces and high raking ceilings. A light, white kitchen, clever layout and two full bathrooms give the owners flexibility, while the expansive deck embraces two sides of this dwelling.
31 Ormonde Drive, MillWater
With white-painted brick cladding alongside classic weatherboards, this home’s unique charm is enhanced by privacy, space, sun and open-plan living. A generous 269sqm easily holds five bedrooms, three bathrooms and two living spaces – one facing north for plenty of sun. The inside opens onto a luxurious covered deck, pool and spa, while a media room offers escape. The master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite as separate spaces. The kitchen and scullery are perfect for entertaining, and four large bedrooms and family bath upstairs are sound-insulated for privacy and peace. And not forgetting the internal access to a carpeted double garage. Altogether, a home for a large family and plenty of friends!
