When Kiwis were winning medals in Tokyo, our team was also being awarded for a year of hard slog.
Despite a few challenges from the global pandemic, we’ve seen huge success across the country at Registered Master Builders House of the Year, 2021. Three homes rank in New Zealand’s top 100 – we’re the only group home builder to gain those accolades. It’s a testament to the care and passion for quality you’ll find at every Sentinel Homes business in New Zealand.
Those same top-ranked houses also took their regional categories and our teams walked away with a slew of medals.
Our Waikato team has smashed it out of the park this year. Both houses they entered won gold and took out the category at the regional awards. Both are also considered in the top 100 best homes in New Zealand.
The first shining star, a crisp home in Ngaruawahia, is filled with airy, wide-open spaces, juxtaposed with black painted brick and warm cedar walls – keeping the home modern and cosy with an edge.
Down the road in Leamington, a second regional and gold award was taken home by our Waikato super-team for a charming, country-character home with a vibrant twist. Notable attributes of the home include the stunning cedar features, rustic earth-toned exterior cladding and a cosy wood fire in the living space. One glance at this country abode will make you want to pour yourself a cuppa, put on your slippers and watch the outside world go by from beside the fireplace.
As if two regional wins and top-100 placings weren’t enough to celebrate, our Taranaki franchise has raked in a third for a stunning family home in Stratford. The brief from the owners was clear – they needed a modern, simple home, with plenty of space to entertain friends and for children to run around. The design team delivered, building a beautiful home that exudes modernity, tamed by the cosy living spaces that overlook green fields in its stunning country setting.
A stunning home in Bethlehem saw Sentinel Homes Bay of Plenty bring home gold and another regional category award! That means this house is considered the best in its category and region.
The team’s focus was to create something that would provide space in the courtyard for soaking in the heat in winter and cooling off in the shade during summer. The team helped bring this extraordinary vision to life complete with an outdoor kitchen and fire, and they’ve got the medals to show for it.
Following roaring successes last year, our Auckland franchise teams have yet more gongs to add to their trophy cabinets.
Sentinel Homes Auckland North & West brought home two golds, the first for a crisp and uncomplicated beautiful family home that spans 174sqm. It’s well-designed to cater for families of all ages – with a separate TV or games room across the house and outdoor space perfect for little people to run around or to host friends at BBQs in the summer.
A house in Hillcrest brought in another gold for the team, for an exceptional build to reflect modern family living – but in an extraordinary way. A dramatic six-metre entranceway welcomes you into the home and expands throughout the living areas to create a spectacularly modern atmosphere – perfect for both entertaining and comfortable family living.
The North & West Auckland team also mopped up with a silver and a bronze award for two homes in Milldale.
The first gold for our Auckland Central, South & East franchise was awarded for a contemporary family home in St Heliers. The home uses every pocket of sun-filled space creating a bright uplifting feel, with windows wide open to the sky.
Over in Kingseat, the team won another gold for a glorious home that’s both rustic and modern. Complete with a covered outdoor living space overlooking the surrounding meadows – here the owners can enjoy the view, rain, hail or shine. With a dark vertical shiplap exterior and a coloursteel roof, this home is unique, timeless and a place to call home for many years to come.
Further north, Sentinel Homes Rodney took home silver for a stunning Port Wells home nestled among picturesque trees.
Inspiration for the home was centred around the owners’ love of their four-legged friends and days spent at the beach. Their home needed to be low-maintenance, catering to this laid-back style and channelling modern, easy-going living. Sentinel delivered – creating a holiday home that balances style and comfort.
The home is a prime example of practicality meeting design and aesthetics. A spacious modern kitchen is centre stage, with easy-wipe services to serve their practicality needs. A garage at the rear of the home creates a hidden courtyard – the perfect space to host friends away from the road, where dogs and children can run free.
In Upper Hutt, our Wellington/Kapiti franchise won silver for an enchanting home with spectacular views. Outside, the design is dark and brooding, with timber features to blend in with its landscape – making it the perfect spot to sip a morning coffee or an evening nightcap. Perfectly contrasted, the mood inside is bright and bold, with carefully positioned skylights to give an overflow of light in every room.
And we weren’t done with medals just yet, with another two coming in for our Manawatu/Whanganui team! The first, a silver award for an unobtrusive design in Whanganui. The home is the very best of easy living, with bright, airy rooms. The team also took out a bronze for a tasteful home in Fitzherbert. The home pays impeccable attention to detail and quality in every corner, with an attractive exterior comprised of coloursteel, weatherboard and plaster. The icing on the cake of this beautiful home is perhaps the secret doorway that leads to a thoughtfully placed scullery.
With another HOTY Awards ceremony under our belts, we’re stoked to have been awarded across categories in areas around the country. We’re looking forward to tackling the new year with new goals, new ambitions and our old promise – to continue to provide quality homes for New Zealanders.
Let’s get together for a free, no-pressure meeting with one of our team, at your place or ours.
We can't wait to hear your ideas!
